  3. On the Macintosh, the Control Panel settings are saved to a battery backed-up area of
  4. RAM called Parameter RAM.  Because of the obvious differences between a "real" Mac
  5. and the ST, Spectre 128 doesn't offer a way to "save" your Control Panel settings.
  6.  
  7. Enter....Disk Param!!
  8.  
  9. Disk Param was written (I am told) by a wonderful Mac user named Dan Webb.  It seems
  10. that the Parameter RAM section on Mr. Webb's Mac got fried, leaving him with no way to
  11. save his Control Panel settings (key click speed, mouse speed, etc.).  So, being a clever
  12. person, Mr. Webb wrote a program to save his setting to DISK...rather than to RAM!!

  14. Mr. Webb uploaded his creation to a Mac BBS and, fortunately for us, a Spectre 128 user 
  15. found it and tried it.   IT WORKED!!

  17. Inside the STUFFIT file, in addition to this DOC file, you should have found:
  18.  
  19.   Disk Param  -  The actual INIT program file
  20.   Param File   -  File containg the "saved" Control Panel settings
  21.  
  22. Using Disk Param is VERY simple and totally automatic.  Simply place both the "Disk Param" file
  23. and the "Param File" file in the SYSTEM FOLDER of your Spectre format boot disk.  Disk Param is
  24. an INIT file and, as such, loads automatically at boot up.  From that point on, all changes you make to any of your Control Panels settings will be automatically saved to the "Param File".  Just leave the two file in your System Folder and, from that point on, each time you boot your Spectre the Control Panel settings will be set to YOUR personal choices!!

  26. The "TIME" and "DATE" settings inside the Control Panel are NOT saved by Disk Param (as they shouldn't be!).   Time and Date function as they normally should with Spectre 128.  (IE, Time and Date are set to whatever the Time and Date was in ST mode before booting into Mac mode.)

  28. By the way, if you accidently delete the "Param File" file, the next time you make changes to any of the Control Panel settings "Disk Param" will generate a NEW "Param File".  This is an easy way to "start fresh" with your settings and a way to see what the Mac's "default" settings are.
